6 Reasons to Add Coconut Oil to Your Daily Routine

I think the cold weather was making me think of warmer climates and I started thinking about what I would take with me if stranded on a desert island. I think the answer would have to be coconut oil every time!

(With this weather – the thought of being stranded on a tropical deserted island actually seems like a good option.)

Coconut oil is one of the most versatile products that I have ever come across. It’s nutritious and amazing for your skin. It has loads of different uses.

So what could you do with your tub of coconut oil on said island? 

1 Eat it

A spoonful of coconut oil is really tasty (I guess not to everyone, but it will be after a while without sugar) and you would be surprised at how filling it can be. Coconut oil is pure fat but the good kind of fat so it will keep you full of energy. So next time you are having a between meals craving try eating a spoonful of coconut oil, trust me they will go away and you won’t end up eating any unhealthy snacks. 

2 Clean your teeth

Have you ever heard of oil pulling? Well, it’s the best way to keep your teeth clean, it seems to get to where your toothbrush and floss can’t.  Oil pulling also helps keep your teeth white! What other thing could you take to the island that would also guarantee dental hygiene? (Apart from a toothbrush of course) 

3 Condition your hair

All that sea breeze and salt water would start matting your hair… unless you  had an amazing all natural conditioner to put in your hair! Conditioners tend to be full of chemicals, so rubbing some coconut oil on your ends before you get in the shower will protect it and help it retain some of the natural oils that you loose during shampooing. 

4 Cook with it

Unlike other oils coconut oil can be exposed to higher temperatures without it losing its benefits. It also adds a really nice flavour to whatever you cook. So maybe you can use it to cook some of that nice fish you would need to be fishing? 

5 Moisturise your skin

Coconut oil is one of the best moisturisers out there , it leaves no residues and it seeps quickly into your skin. It also acts as a deep cleanser as it softens your keratin caps which helps release toxins. 

6 Stay healthy

Coconut has high levels of antioxidants and these give your immune system a boost. This could be very useful to keep you going in a new environment. 

Joking aside, the benefits of coconut oil are endless and if you haven't already you should make it a staple in your kitchen. I guarantee if you make a conscious effort to incorporate it in your life you won’t be able to let it go!
